Volunteers
Needed!
Kate St. John (6/14/2002)
June 11 was banding day for the 4 chicks at the University
of Pittsburgh (3 male, 1 female, all are healthy) who hatched
approximately May 12. It was great to see the chicks up
close. The parent birds were upset when the Game Commission
folks went out on the ledge but all was calm soon
after the chicks were returned & all the human noise
subsided indoors.
According to information at the Canadian Peregrine Foundation
website, the 4 chicks will fledge sometime between 37 to
45 days after hatching which is June 18 - June 26. (They
could fledge as early as 33 days and as late as 50
days (July1).
We need volunteers to watch the fledglings (from the ground)
during the fledge dates to make sure the young don't get
into trouble. Those who would like to volunteer should contact
Tami Campbell
at the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy or call 412-288-6162
to coordinate dates & times and to get contact phone
numbers in case of an emergency.
