Peregrine Falcons
3RBC Meeting Wednesday, September 18, 2002
Charles Bier's Peregrine Falcon slide show is our topic
for the September 18, 2002 3RBC Meeting. He will
cover the history and latest developments in the nesting
of the Gulf Tower and Cathedral of Learning Peregrine Falcon
pairs.
Additional information on the Pittsburgh Peregrines can
be found at the following web addresses:
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (information on the Peregrine Falcons in Pittsburgh)
Pittsburgh Post Gazette featured an article of the falcons at the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning in Oakland.
Club member, Kate St. John's observation report.
Pennsylvania Game Commission Peregrine Falcon Site and track movements of 4 falcons (includes maps).
Because of the fire at the Frick Environmental Center,
we can not use it for the foreseeable future as a meeting
place. The September 18 Meeting will be held in Botany
Hall, the building just behind the corner of
Phipps Conservatory in Schenley Park, in Pittsburgh's Oakland
section.
Our Social Hour begins across the road at the Schenley
Park Visitors Center from 6:15 to 7:00 PM, where
several tables will be reserved for the 3RBC. (We can not
bring our food and drink into Botany Hall, but we can bring
our usual deserts to the Visitor Center, and delightfully
nice soups, sandwiches and sweet treats are on sale there,
too.)
The meeting itself will take place
across the road at Botany Hall, where doors will open 7:00PM.
(No food or drink can be brought into Botany Hall unless
provided by its owner, Phipps Conservatory, so our pre-meeting
social hour is at the visitors center.)
Our regular meeting begins at 7:30PM,
as usual, in Botany Hall. Botany Hall is the
yellow brick building directly behind Phipps. It's the last
building on the right just before the Panther Hollow bridge,
as you're coming from Oakland.
The Visitors Center is the old Schenly Park Nature Center,
just across from Phipps, at the T intersection of the road.
More detailed directions to Phipps can be obtained by phone.
