Three Rivers Birding Club

Thanks for Contributing to the Peregrine!

Paul Hess asked me (Jack Solomon) to make a list of all the members who contribute to the editing, production, and distribution of the Peregrine. I did it once before, but the list may have increased since then. Here is the list, in the order of creating the newsletter, but without the names of those very important people who only occasionally contribute an article:

  • Paul Hess is the editor; his deadline is the 15th of the month, prior to each month the Peregrine comes out — so the deadlines are the 15th of January, March, May, July, September, and November. He adds a column, and special features.

  • Mike Fialkovich is the bird reports editor and writes a regular report.

  • Jim Valimont writes the outings to come section.

  • I (Jack Solomon) write a regular message, and get envelopes printed as needed by Bill MCCaslin, a friend of Wendy Jo Shemansky's. I pick them up and deliver them to Bob Machesney.

  • Pat & Sherron Lynch proofread the articles.

  • Joan Tague does layout, and gets it to Banksville Express, our current printer, in the last week of the month.

  • In some issues, Suzanne Varley has done the job of getting it to the printer.

  • The printer delivers 250 copies to Bob Machesney. He pays Banksville directly, and reimburses me for envelopes.

  • Bob maintains a database of members, including their dues due dates. Bob also puts stamps and address labels on the envelopes, and, when needed, prepares notices to members as to when their dues must be paid. (I believe when dues come due, members get a little note from Bob. If, by the next Peregrine mailing, they're overdue, they get a final notice.) Bob keeps some copies of each Peregrine and sends them to new members who join after a Peregrine was mailed.

  • Randy and Sarah Gerrish pick up the printed 8.5x17 inch pages from Bob, fold them and stuff the envelopes, add any dues notices needed, pursuant to Bob's instructions, and get them in the mail, about 180 or 190 copies. They do this, I hasten to add, in a day or two after picking them up from Bob.

The Peregrine is usually in members' hands by the first few days of the month in which it's supposed to come out — often sooner. A tribute to the quick turn around time of everyone who works on it.
