Three Rivers Birding Club Night at City Theater
Outlying Islands by David Grieg
pWednesday, October 20, 2004
"On the brink of World
War II, two young Cambridge ornithologists arrive on a
remote Scottish island to survey the birds for a
government ministry, and especially to study the rare
Leach's fork-tailed petrels that reside there. They
discover that the purpose for their wildlife census is
much more sinister than they imagined, and threatens to
destroy the bird and other natural island life for
decades, if not longer. Outlying Islands explores
themes of natural law vs. societal conventions, the
destruction imposed by civilization and so-called
technological progress on wildlife and habitat
conservation, and how we observe each other and are in
turn observed, all through the lens of two young
researchers studying the birds."
