Member Praises Nature Art Exhibit
(By Mabel Matteson)

I thought some folks might like to know about a nature art exhibit in Jamestown, NY at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. It is a special showing of Robert Bateman wildlife paintings and drawings, loaned from private collections and not usually seen by the public. Except for three of the artworks, the 34 items will be on display until late October (extended from September 15). Glenn and I viewed it on August 12 and it was spectacular. Subjects range from large African mammals to the Black-capped Chickadee.

RTP Institute is located at 311 Curtis Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. The phone is 716-665-2473 and the website is http://www.rtpi.org.  Hours are 10:00AM-4:00PM Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1:00-5:00PM Sundays (closed on Mondays). The 27 acres there contain trails to hike and bird feeders that can be viewed from inside the building.

Admission is charged. It has an excellent nature gift and book shop. We recommend Friendly's Restaurant downtown for eating (especially ice cream)! Jamestown is not too far from Presque Isle and Erie if anyone is traveling in that direction. Plan on spending at least an hour viewing the artwork.
