Birders found 236 species plus one hybrid Brewster’s Warbler in Allegheny County in 2005, the second highest total since this list was first generated in 1991. Highlights include the first record of Greater White-fronted Goose since 1895, first county records of Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Laughing Gull, and Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow, third county record of Iceland Gull, fifth county record of Lesser Black-backed Gull, eighth and ninth county records of American Golden Plover, fifth county record of Western Sandpiper, and rarities such as Common Moorhen, Red Phalarope, Northern Saw-whet Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Fish Crow, Prothonotary Warbler, Dickcissel, and Brewer’s Blackbird.
