Bluebird Trails at Harrison Hills Park
We now have three Bluebird trails at Harrison Hills Park completed.
The north trail is located in the meadows near the Harrison
Hills composting operation and
horse jumping area off of Parks Lane.
There
are 26 nesting boxes there built and installed by the cub
scouts Troop 186.
The south trail is located at the soccer fields and meadow surrounding the large pond. There are 4 at the soccer fields and 6 in open areas near the pond.
The park entrance trail has 2 nesting boxes along the fence along Hartford Drive.
These 12 were build by Hubert Kamer a volunteer from Fawn Twp. and installed by the Friends.
We would like to have someone adopt each trail to check on the houses and record Bluebird nesting successes and monitor the boxes in general. Bluebird nesting period run from now through July.
If anyone or group is interested please contact Patrick Kopnicky at 724-224-4102 and he'll explain the process of adoption and what's involved in that responsibility.
Prior to these installations taking place there were NO BLUEBIRD NESTING BOXES at Harrison Hills Park. Now we are doing our part to provide a home for the Bluebirds who's comeback is dependent on such nesting boxes to provide nesting cavities formerly available in wooden fence posts that for now are nonexistent.
When you first see a Bluebird at the Park on a nesting box you'll know why we've gone through so much work. They'll take your breath away! Good luck watching!
