Wind Power and Golden Eagles
National Aviary's Research Team's White Paper

The issue of development of wind power capacity and its influence on wildlife is highly complex and important politically. As you probably know, our research team has received a large number of requests for information and data on the golden eagles we are tracking in relation to the development of wind power. As independent scientists, we have an obligation to collect and report our data in as unbiased a manner as possible. After some false starts we put together a "white paper" summarizing our project, providing our professional opinion on how we believe wind power should be developed, and giving information on our funding and on our data and publication policies. Although we are unlikely to make everyone happy with this policy, I hope that most can see that we are trying to strike a reasonable balance, providing what information we can without giving up the opportunity to draw our own conclusions from our work.

Attached is a second edition of this document, slightly revised since last year when we distributed the first version. As before, we expect to make changes in this document, in response to feedback and as we learn more through our research. For ease of distribution, this document is also posted on the National Aviary web page (on most pages related to golden eagles) and available to the general public at http://www.aviary.org.

Thanks for your time and support of our project.
Sincerely,
Todd Katzner
