The Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology is looking at the career of Paul Hess in Pennsylvania Birds, the journal of the organization. Jack Solomon has compiled a list of Paul's contributions. Click here to see the impressive accomplishments
We have lost a vibrant and generous member of our club with the passing of Lee Tosh on October 31. Anyone who ventured to the Allegheny Hawk Watch or joined in on a botanical outing was very familiar with Lee's overwhelming hospitality and amazing talents. With a personality as big as the whole outdoors, she could make any outing an event. Seamstress, crafter, homemaker, teacher, most of us regaled in her amazing ability to "put on a spread" with ease and graciousness. Mary Jane Seipler recalls her impressions of Lee in a touching tribute.
Don Gibbon, Sierra Club stalwart, active in 3RBC and many other environmental organizations, died October 13. His obituary illustrates Don's "amazing abilities, career, multitude of interests and accomplishments" says 3RBC president Jim Valimont, who highly recommends reading it. In the reminiscences of friends and admirers, perhaps Jack Solomon made the comment that we can all agree with - "It'll be quite awhile before the space this giant tree occupied in the forest fills in."
