Sunday, November 10 — Pennsy Swamp and Grove City Grasslands

Bob Machesney will lead this outing in search of waterfowl and migrants. Waterfowl migrants will likely be here, but there will be plenty of migrant songbirds. A short distance away are the grasslands where Northern Harrier and Short-eared Owl are possibilities. Bob has also been successful in finding Long-eared Owl in nearby pines in past years. This is also the general area where Pennsylvania's only known breeding pair of Sandhill Cranes nest and usually linger and feed in the local fields. Meet at the Game Lands parking lot on #2 Mine Road at 7:30AM. From I-79, take the Grove City exit, west on Route 208 to Veterans Road (first left past the light at MacDonald's), left on Brent-North Liberty Road (3-4 miles), right on #2 Mine Road (1/4 mile). Parking lot is on left. Allow about one and a half hours drive from Pittsburgh.

(Non-3RBC) Sunday, November 10 —Woodcock Dam Multi-Purpose Trail Hike

Presque Isle Audubon Society (with the Allegheny Canoe Club)

Leader: Lee Ann Reiners 814-398-8571 — I recently discovered this beautiful trail and can't wait to share it with my friends. It can be biked or hiked, and it is easily walked and wheelchair accessible. We'll set up a car shuttle and hike from the campgrounds to Woodcock Dam, about 3 miles. At the south end of the dam there is a side spur to the main trail. We will explore this short trail, then complete the final mile across the dam. We will pass through open fields and evergreen woodlands. After we finish the main hike, we also have the option of an additional hike at either Bossard Nature Trail (which is across the street from the main office/dam area) or a seldom used trail on the gamelands above the inlet to the lake. Meet at 1:00 pm at the parking lot by Woodcock Dam. Bring drinking water and a snack for on the trail. Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or boots, especially if you plan to join us for the "after-hike."

    # From Meadville: north on Rt. 86 to Rt. 198.*
