Saturday, February 18 — Cook Forest/Piney Tract
Mike Leahy (814-797-2287) will lead this outing in search of wintering species. Cook Forest sometimes has abundant numbers of winter finches, and Piney Tract is a great place to find Northern Shrike, Rough-legged Hawk and Short-eared Owl. Meet at 9 AM at the Cook Forest park office. Take I-79 north to I-80 east. Go east to exit 60 (old exit 8), the Shippenville exit. Take Route 66 north toward Marienville. At the intersection of Routes 66 and 36 in the village of Leeper, turn right (south) onto Route 36. Follow SR 36 into Cook Forest. Just before you cross the bridge over the Clarion River, turn left onto River Road. The park office is 100 yards down River Road on the left side. Allow two hours driving time from Pittsburgh.
(Non-3RBC) Thursday, February 2 — Wissahickon Nature Club Meeting
On February 2, Thursday, Our speaker will be Gary Fujak, Wildlife Conservation Officer. Gary will focus on the Crime Scene Investigation aspect of the Pa. Game Commission. Basically he will talk about the tools and techniques used to solve different wildlife violations of the game law. He will present the CSI kit he uses to investigate and solve poaching crimes. Learn how to determine the animal’s time of death and what is involved in the necropsy (autopsy) of an animal. Gary will share stories about different poaching incidents and some of the cases he has investigated. Don’t miss this hands-on presentation.
Don’t miss our next program. On February 16, Paul Weigman will present Great Allegheny Passage Bike and Hike Trail. This will be a power-point production.

Directions from Pittsburgh: take Ohio River Boulevard (Route 65) into Ben Avon. After crossing the bridge into Ben Avon, turn Right onto Dickson. At the second STOP sign turn Left onto Church Street. After the third STOP sign look for a large stone church on the left. Turn left onto Rostrevor. Parking lot is on the left of Rostrevor Place.
