July 2006 Outings
(Non-3RBC) Tuesday, July 25 — Wissahickon Nature Club: Bird & Wildflower Outing at Jennings Prairie
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Leaders: Esther Allen and Chuck Tague will guide this
outing trough the unique ecosystem at the Jennings
Prairie.
This is the perfect time to explore the relict prairie. The hot weather tends to bring the stunning Blazing Star, Canada Lilies and some of the other dazzling prairie flowers to peak performance. The goldenrods of fall will begin to show. Don’t miss the spectacular butterflies – the swallowtails and fritillaries that grace the prairie with their breathtaking beauty.
Flycatchers, vireos, tanagers, Common Yellowthroats and Cedar Waxwings sometimes make an appearance for us. We may come across a Red Eft, the larval form of a Red-spotted Newt.
Wear a hat and sunscreen. Bring binoculars, field guides, water and a lunch. Call Susanne at (412)771-4737 or respond to this email so we know you’re coming.
