This section is a must for both novice and advanced birders. These are the best birding hotspots in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Novice birds may use these write-ups to identify birds in the area while advanced birders may use this to locate a specific species. Hopefully, when this section is complete, there will be maps, habitats, checklists and even noteworthy plants for each birding hotspot.
These excerpts are written by members of the club and it is by no means exhaustive or complete. If you would like to contribute and are familiar with a birding hotspot, please send us a write-up. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged.
A comprehensive guide to many possible spots to bird for waterfowl and shorebirds along Pittsburgh's three rivers is Scott Kinzey's work: "Site Guide to Allegheny County's Portions of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers." It can be found here: Site Guide.
